Huntsville to Hold Economic Development Summit

Yes, this is official. Photo courtesy: Trent Willis/City of Huntsville

The City of Huntsville will be holding its first Economic Development Summit-- "Developing Ideas: Planning for Huntsville's Future"-- on Wednesday, January 19th from 6-8pm at the Hudson-Alpha Center for Biotechnology in Research Park. The summit is open to the public.

The purpose of this summit is to get feedback from the public about where the city should be going in terms of economic development and planning. Representatives from the real estate community along with city officials and yours truly will be there to answer your questions. The format of this event is still evolving, and the attendance will ultimately determine what will be done.

Also at the summit, the city's new online Ideas Map will be formally introduced and demonstrated. Want to know what I'm talking about? Come to the meeting and find out.

Ditto-something needs to be done about Zierdt road needs expansion, shopping plaza with dry cleaning, grocery store, etc could be added at the corner of Zierdt and Martin Rd. It's starting to become very congested and wait time to the Arsenal gate is getting longer each year. Everything is a distance to get to for shopping with traffic increase it takes longer to go and come back. No public parks for recreation near by.

Redevelopment, redevelopment, redevelopment. Continuing to build on new sites when we have empty and abandoned buildings and sites is just foolish, particularly when those sites are definitely not in a depressed area. (Yes, south Parkway, I'm looking at you.)

How about build our own version of Burbon St.. (Rocket Square) in downtown Hsv. Have a bunch of bars, restaurants and clubs to attract the young professionals out of thier holes...:)

Old Thread but I will try anyway...

What I heard at the Summit was basically that it costs too much to develop in Huntsville. I wonder if sought after restaurants could follow the Embassy Suites/Ruth's Chris model to allow them a presence in desirable locations without incurring the cost of building new?
